It’s, like, metaphorical code-switching: speaking so others will listen and listening, so others will speak
Featuring Alexandra Keenan
March 8th, 12-1pm
In honour of International Women’s Day, Alex Keenan of Spice! Leadership takes you on a romp through the socio-linguistic world of young women – how they speak and why, and the ways in which their voices are understood, misunderstood, dismissed and eventually copied by the rest of the world. Along the way, she challenges you to consider how expanding our definitions of “correct” speech can strengthen businesses, institutions and democracies.
Alexandra Keenan is the co-founder of Spice! Leadership, an organization that promotes leadership and empowerment among girls+. Alex’s endless pursuit of a better world led her to a career in law, where she discovered that she has a gift for helping people tackle their fears and find their voices. Today, as a mentor and advocate for authentic leadership, she uses that skill to empower tomorrow’s great leaders. Alex has studied improv and secretly wishes she were funny enough for TV. Until that day, she’ll use it as a tool to help her clients explore the endless possibilities in their own lives.
