From Hiring to Firing – The Basics of Employment Law

The legal complexities of the employment relationship may seem daunting if you don’t know where to start. Not only do employers need to worry about meeting their business needs, but they also need to be conscious of the ways that employment laws affect their operations. Human rights legislation, employment standards, and occupational health and safety rules are just a few of the many laws that apply to Canadian employers.

Brittany Hinds is here to provide some direction in this complex legal landscape. If you are new to the employment field, or just looking for a quick refresher on the basics, we invite you to join Brittany for a general overview of the legal dos and don’ts when it comes to your employees.

Brittany will be discussing key considerations and best practices in relation to each of the three main chapters of the employment relationship:

  1. the initial formation of the employment contract;
  2. general performance management throughout the relationship; and
  3. the breakdown or termination of employment. Brittany is an employment and labour lawyer.
