Digital Literacy through Internet of Things and Design Thinking

Digital literacy – understanding and using digital – is so important to growth and relevance in today’s age of exponential technological advancement. And, the Internet of Things (IoT) presents one of the largest and fundamental digital literacy challenges.

Workshop Description:

The Internet of Things (IoT) is here. Whether applied to industrial automation, wearables, connected transportation, drones or smart cities, it’s poised to deliver great benefits along with new challenges. The numerous benefits, which include improved revenue, costs, increased efficiencies, standard of living, and convenience, are often confounded by challenges such as privacy, security, social disruption and new demands on quality.

Knowing IoT and its benefits and challenges is important and necessary to be literate – but that’s not enough. Design Thinking is the critical partner in leveraging the power of IoT. To fully deliver the benefits and tackle the challenges around IoT, organizations and individuals must first understand their end users’ perspectives and needs which is why a Design Thinking lens is vital for creating and de-risking innovative IoT solutions.

This powerful combination of understanding the IoT space and its technologies and how users will use them to solve challenges is essential for developing better products, services, and policies with IoT.

This workshop presents what you must know about the Internet of Things and shows you how to apply Design Thinking to innovate IoT solutions.

The workshop will cover:

  • IoT framework – what, why, why now
  • IoT architecture
  • IoT application verticals
  • IoT technologies and disciplines
  • IoT benefits and challenges
  • IoT and government
  • Use and impact of IoT on operations and public policy
  • Design Thinking mindset and rationale
  • Design Thinking methodology
  • Design Thinking practice

The day will be interactive with guided practical activities so that you’ll leave with hands on experience in applying IoT with a Design Thinking lens.

Workshop is delivered through a partnership of Praxiem and Spring2 Innovation.
