The Growcer on CBC’s Dragons’ Den: A Community Viewing Event @ Bayview Yards

Save the Date!

The Growcer, a homegrown scale-up company that enables local and sustainable food production, pitched the CBC ‘Dragons’ for investment earlier this year.  Would you like to know how Ottawa’s own Corey Ellis and Alida Burke, co-founders of The Growcer, fared in the Dragons’ Den?  Join us for the moment of truth!

Invest Ottawa and Bayview Yards look forward to hosting a special Dragons’ Den viewing event on Thursday, January 10 from 7PM to 9:30PM in the RBC Foundry when the episode airs for the first time on CBC!

Don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate this scaling Ottawa firm and cheer on their team with our community. Our special evening will include:

  • Registration and Networking: 7PM-7:30PM
  • Program: 7:30PM-8PM
  • Viewing of Dragons’ Den on CBC via the big screens in the RBC Foundry: 8PM-9PM
  • Wrap-up and Networking: 9-9:30PM

Light refreshments will be served, and theatre style seating will be available for this event. There is no cost for tickets,  limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.  Guests are invited to park in the gravel lot beside Bayview Yards, or on the street in the surrounding area.

Invest Ottawa is proud to support this scaling technology company as one of the stars in our iO Accelerator!  With the support of the City of Ottawa and FedDev Ontario, Bayview Yards is home to a Growcer pod, enabling innovators, entrepreneurs and firms across the region to leverage this system, and put the associated capabilities technologies to work in agri-tech research, development and prototyping.

Should you have any questions about this special event, please contact Sonya Shorey, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Invest Ottawa and Bayview Yards at [email protected]

About The Growcer: The Growcer manufactures modular plug-and-play hydroponic systems to enable food production in remote communities and operations. Their flagship Arctic Growing System IV is built within retrofitted insulated shipping containers and can produce in excess of 4 tonnes of produce annually in temperatures as cold as -52°C.

About CBC’s Dragons’ Den Launching a business is no small task. No matter how big an idea you think you have, it still takes a lot of work and a ton of cash. Enter the Dragons’ Den, where aspiring entrepreneurs pitch their business concepts and products to a panel of Canadian business moguls who have the cash and the know-how to make it happen. They’ve all been there themselves, so you better not walk into the Den unprepared. It takes more than passion to convince these boardroom giants that your idea is worth their attention. The Dragons are ruthless and rightly so — it’s their own personal money on the line.
