Food and drink are a universal language and three Ottawa creators have found different ways to tell their stories through this common tongue. A food photographer, food journalist, and food blogger are adding value for their audiences and share how to turn their passion into profit.

About the Panelists

Debra Cowie

Debra Cowie is an Ottawa-based food stylist and photographer who has worked with iconic Ottawa brands like Giant Tiger andKettleman’s Bagels and local favourites like RAW Pulp and Grind and The Unrefined Olive. Her work is dedicated to highlighting the natural beauty of food and creating scenes that evoke the feelings of great food being enjoyed. She loves colour, throwing dinner parties and a perfectly disheveled napkin. Her sourdough starter is named Dolly Parton.

Jonna Tymkiw

Joanna has both trained and worked as a chef as well as received her Master’s in Journalism with a focus on food media. She has worked behind the scenes and in front for food television, authored her own cooking column and has been published in numerous newspapers and magazines. Joanna now pursues food media only part time and strongly believes the combination of stability and passion provides a valuable objectiveness that allows her to profit and grow.

Yvonne Langen

Yvonne shares her passion for food and drink with an infectious enthusiasm, authentic voice, and raw humour. She is dedicated to taking the intimidation factor out of cocktails by connecting with aspiring home bartenders, especially women, in a real and relatable way through her Virtual Happy Hour series on Instagram. Her tagline is, “It’s about participation, not perfection.”Winner of the Fan Favourite Award in the 2020 Mionetto Prosecco Cocktail Competition and regular TV fixture – Yvonne has a proven ability to connect with her audience.
