What You’ll Do  

The Program Director will drive the strategy and execution roadmap for Ottawa’s Autonomous Vehicle Innovation Network (AVIN) Regional Technology Hub You’ll play a significant role in leading the program, driving innovation, and ensuring that the Ottawa Hub establishes leadership position with Ontario’s automotive leaders to development, validation and commercialization of AV technologies in partnership with the automotive industry.  The ideal candidate leads the all aspects operations of the hub, including managing relationships with Ottawa’s communication and IT network leaders, and developing and managing partnerships with Ontario’s automotive leaders. This position will require a strong engineering track record in communications and IT networks and/ or technical sales experience in the automotive industry.

The Program Director in partnership with the industry technical steering committee work closely with the Project Manager to establish the private and public multi-vendor AV test platforms.  These platforms will integrate various AVIN partners in-kind contributions into cohesive testbeds.  This function will have primary responsibility for the commercialization activities of the hub, including management of projects, issuance of RFPs, solicitation and screening of proposals and project monitoring and execution.

Due to the rapid evolution of the emerging AV technologies for which the Ottawa AVIN will be at the forefront; the Program Director will play an important role in defining and delivering AVINs services and ensuring the continued evolution of the testbed is aligned with the needs of the automotive industry, and the industry is actively engaged in testing vehicles and technologies .


Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Develop value propositions and messaging to address customer, partner, analyst, press, and employee audiences
  • Define processes, project requirements and policies through customer interaction, market research, quantitative sizing, competitive analysis, and by working with the AVIN partners
  • With the industry partners establish an integrated, multi-vendor AV test platform that supports AVIN projects, use cases and research from the stakeholders across the regions AV cluster in partnership with Ontario’s automotive industry
  • Manage the technical steering committee and with the automotive industry partners define, deliver and continue to evolve the public and private AVIN testbeds
  • Identify, evaluate, scope and provide the reporting for the industry projects
  • Ensure that all metrics and reporting requirements are met and delivered to the government funders in the required time lines
  • Manage all financial, program delivery/impact and AV data and information reporting requirements
  • Represent the centre at targeted events and speaking opportunities to attract new companies and talent to the Ottawa region. Identify relevant local, provincial, national and international events that could put Ottawa AVIN Regional Ecosystem capabilities to work in their R&D, and help to create new business and market opportunities for local AV firms and automotive partners
  • With support for our marketing team, develop and execute AVIN marketing communications strategies, tactics and messages to promote the value of associated infrastructure and programming to market these capabilities to target audiences across the ecosystem. (


Required Competencies and Experience

  • Expertise in managing large government programs and delivering reporting and KPIs
  • Understanding of network architecture and cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Rackspace)
  • Experience in building partnerships with industry partners in communications, IT networks and automotive
  • Sound judgment and ability in handling matters of a confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Ability to manage numerous priorities and industry consortiums
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to grasp technology, learn and adapt quickly to changes
  • Direct experience defining technical support strategies, desirable to have management consulting background
  • Direct experience managing financial budgets and allocation of program resources
  • English oral, reading and writing
  • French oral, reading and writing would be considered an asset
  • Competency in any other language is also an asset



  • Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Engineering including Automotive Engineering or Computer Science: 10 years leadership experience in high-tech environments and/ or the automotive industry,
  • Direct experience defining technical support strategies, desirable to have management consulting background
  • English oral, reading and writing
  • French oral, reading and writing would be considered an asset
  • Competency in any other language is also an asset
