Protecting Innovative Sectors from Foreign Threats

The U.S. Embassy, in partnership with the Internet Society, Canada Chapter, is hosting a virtual research security event, Protecting Innovative Canadian Sectors from Foreign Threats on October 5th, 2021. This public online forum will explore the risks to applied research from foreign acquisition, including through cyber espionage, in innovative sectors such as biopharma and health, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, ocean technology, digital transformation, aerospace, and cybersecurity.

The event will facilitate engagement between U.S. and Canadian experts, and Canadian innovators in academia, startups, and small businesses. Planned discussion topics include: nefarious technology acquisition methods, including cyber espionage, and foreign direct investment in sensitive sectors.
