About this event

Ottawa Healthcare Innovation meetup team is hosting a health care event supported by JN Nova Pharma (https://jnnova.com/) on Tuesday, March 21st from 6 to 8:30 pm at Invest Ottawa (7 Bayview Station Road). The event will highlight the latest research trends in cell- and gene-based therapies to treat lung diseases, and the work of Dr. Bernard Thébaud in this area. Dr. Thébaud is a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and Neonatologist at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

Due to limited space, registration will be on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Speakers Bio:

Dr. Bernard Thébaud, a clinician-scientist, is dedicated to accelerating the translation of stem cell-based therapies for lung diseases. He obtained his MD at the Université Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France in 1991, and trained in pediatrics and neonatology at the University Paris V in France before completing a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta. In 2012, Dr. Thébaud joined the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute as a Senior Scientist and the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) as a Neonatologist where he provides care to critically ill newborns.

Dr. Thébaud’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of lung development, injury, and repair to design new treatments for incurable lung diseases. His lab uses animal models of human lung disease and correlates structural and functional changes to assess the clinical relevance of experimental therapies. Dr. Thébaud’s research contributions over the past decade include discovering the role of angiogenesis for normal lung development and repair, demonstrating the therapeutic potential of stem cells in various lung diseases, and the therapeutic potential of adeno-associated virus (AAV)-mediated gene therapy for surfactant protein deficiency.

Over the next five years, the lab’s goal is to bring safe and effective cell- and gene-based therapies for lung diseases into the clinic, thereby creating vast improvements in patient outcomes.
