Ottawa’s climate tech scene just scored a global win. Planetary, has landed a $31.3 million offtake agreement with Frontier buyers (Stripe, Google, Shopify, McKinsey, and more).

Their breakthrough in ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE) isn’t just about removing CO₂ at scale — it’s about proving Ottawa founders can build world-class companies tackling the planet’s hardest problems.

“What inspires me most about Mike Kelland is that, as a repeat founder, he didn’t let a lack of direct expertise in ocean carbon removal stop him. He saw a massive global problem, stepped into an unfamiliar field, and built a company that’s now leading one of the most important climate solutions of our time. This latest milestone is game-changing and a testament to his vision, perseverance, and the kind of entrepreneurial courage we need more of in the world.” Nick Quain, VP Venture Development, Invest Ottawa
