“Fusion Fuel Cycles’ decision to establish its office at Bayview Yards underscores Ottawa’s role as a testbed and launchpad for technologies that can change the world,” said Sonya Shorey, President and CEO of Invest Ottawa. “UNITY-2 is more than a breakthrough in clean energy. It’s an opportunity to create high-value jobs, strengthen sovereign supply chains, and deliver sustainable economic and environmental benefits for Canadians. We are honoured to collaborate with FFC and partners across government, academia, and industry to advance this transformative initiative.”

Yasir Naqvi, Member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre remarked on the collaborative strengths that innovative companies can draw on in the Ottawa region, and praised FCC for choosing to expand into the area.

“Countries and businesses around the world want to do more business with Canada,” he said. “There is this incredible appetite because they realize that we are a stable country, a predictable partner, that we’ve got some of the brightest people coming from all parts of the world that call themselves Canadians – that is our strength. And when companies like Fusion Fuel Cycles really step up to the plate with innovative technologies and solutions, you’re affirming what people think of Canada.”

Member of Provincial Parliament for Renfrew- Nipissing – Pembrooke Billy Denault echoed how the company’s expansion demonstrates the strength of innovation both in Ottawa and beyond.

“On behalf of the province of Ontario, it’s exciting to celebrate another chapter in Ontario’s nuclear energy story with the opening of the Fusion Fuel Cycles Ottawa office,” he said. “Today, we celebrate growth and opportunity here in Ottawa, but we also celebrate the future of Ontario – a future powered by clean, reliable and homegrown energy – a future supported by world-class innovation and a future where Ontario stands as a global leader.”

Over the next five years, UNITY-2 is expected to generate more than 50 high-tech jobs in Ottawa and across Canada, expanding to more than 250 as operations grow. The project will also deliver training and workforce development opportunities through partnerships with Canadian and Japanese universities, and advance reconciliation through engagement with Indigenous communities, including the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation.

With UNITY-2, FCC’s Ottawa team is helping shape the future of fusion energy, a zero-carbon solution with the potential to displace up to 90 megatons of CO₂ annually by 2050.
