Ottawa, ON – Ottawa-headquartered Larus Technologies Corporation recently secured an $8.3 million contract with the Department of National Defence (DND) to advance the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in tactical planning and decision-making.
The contract, secured through the Innovation for Defence Excellence and Security (IDEaS) program, supports the continued development and deployment of Larus’ Multi-Domain Adversarial Behaviour Modeling using Retroactive Analytics and Activity-Based Intelligence (MAABI) platform – an AI-powered decision intelligence solution adapted to help military leaders better understand and anticipate adversary behaviour in complex operational environments.
Tactical Training Powered by Machine Learning and AI
MAABI leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze large, complex datasets, including sensor and geospatial intelligence, generating predictive insights and recommended courses of action.
The platform supports both operational planning and real-time decision-making, helping improve precision, reduce risk, and enhance responsiveness in high-stakes environments.
As part of the IDEaS program, MAABI will be integrated into Canadian Army training exercises, including upcoming Canadian and Allied operations, allowing operators to test and refine the platform in live scenarios.
“MAABI represents a major step forward in applying Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to tactical planning,” said Dr. Rami Abielmona, Chief Technology Officer at Larus. “Our goal is to empower analysts and commanders with the speed and precision required to stay ahead of evolving threats.”
This milestone reflects the strength of Canada’s Capital Region as a global defence innovation hub, where proximity between industry, government, and research accelerates the development and deployment of critical technologies.
“This moment reinforces something we see every day: when world-class defence and security companies are operating in close proximity to national decision-makers, end users, research labs, and advanced testing environments, innovation accelerates and impact scales,” Sonya Shorey, President and CEO of Invest Ottawa, recently shared.
