Homegrown Meets Prime: Ottawa’s Metropolitan Technologies Partners with CAE to Strengthen Canada’s Cyber Resilience

Nov 12, 2025

Ottawa, Canada – November 5, 2025 – In a cyber and defence innovation ecosystem update, CAE Defence and Security, one of Canada’s top defence primes, recently announced a new partnership with Metropolitan Technologies, an Ottawa-based company developing secure, smart infrastructure solutions designed to protect critical systems in high-stakes environments.

The announcement was made last week during CADSI’s recent Cyber and Digital Outlooks event in Ottawa, where industry and government leaders gathered to discuss the future of cybersecurity, data resilience, and digital defence.

Through Canada’s Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) Policy, CAE’s investment will help Metropolitan Technologies advance its cybersecurity platform, which sets out to simplify and strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure – a key part of Canada’s Cyber Resilience Key Industrial Capability (KIC) strategy.

“CAE’s contribution reflects our commitment to supporting Canadian innovation and strengthening its defence industrial base,” CAE Defence and Security recently shared in a LinkedIn post. “These contributions are key to building long-term resilience, fostering innovation, and advancing next-generation, cyber-secure defence programs that lay the foundation for technological leadership.”

Ottawa Innovation at Work

Founded in 2022 by Daly Brown and Nick Foubert, Metropolitan Technologies is an Ottawa-based company developing decentralized connectivity, IoT/OT cybersecurity, and data mesh solutions that connect and protect critical infrastructure in complex environments.

The company is developing a decentralized connectivity and cybersecurity platform that helps connect and protect critical infrastructure, from energy and utilities to transportation and defence systems.

Part of a new generation of Canadian defence innovators emerging from the National Capital Region, Metropolitan Technologies is working with industry partners and early investors, and has already attracted attention for its secure, scalable technology and growing list of collaborations with multinational defence primes.

Defence Innovation in Canada’s Capital

With more than 330 defence, security, and cybersecurity companies employing over 10,000 people, Ottawa is home to one of Canada’s most dynamic defence innovation ecosystems. The city hosts 65 federal research labs, the headquarters of DND, DRDC, RCMP, CSIS, and CSE, and multiple NATO DIANA test centres, including Area X.O, Canada’s all-season R&D complex for emerging technologies operated by Invest Ottawa.

CAE Defence & Security is Canada’s sovereign defence partner, supporting the operational readiness of armed forces around the world through advanced training, simulation, and mission-support technologies.

Collaborations between primes and startups like CAE and Metropolitan Technologies show how public-private partnerships are helping Canada stay ahead of emerging threats — while creating new opportunities for innovation, resilience, and growth right here in the Capital.
