Ottawa, Canada – Invest Ottawa is proud to celebrate Larus Technologies, an Ottawa-based artificial intelligence company, on securing a $2.5 million contract with the Royal Canadian Navy to advance maritime domain awareness using leading AI and machine learning technology.
This federal investment will help Larus expand its cutting-edge platform to support Canada’s naval operations, enabling faster and more informed decisions at sea. It reflects both the strength of Ottawa’s AI and defence ecosystem, and the importance of homegrown innovation in addressing national security challenges.
Ottawa: A Hub for Defence and AI Innovation
Ottawa is home to more than 190 defence, security, and cybersecurity companies, alongside one of the country’s strongest AI clusters. With the support of Area X.O, Invest Ottawa’s R&D complex for next-generation technologies, companies like Larus have access to secure, real-world environments to safely test, validate, and commercialize solutions with dual-use applications for defence and security.
This contract underscores the role of Ottawa innovators in strengthening Canada’s sovereignty while creating economic growth and global competitiveness.
In addition to this milestone, a member of Larus Technologies’ executive team will share their expertise on a panel at GCXpo next week. Hosted at Area X.O on Wednesday, September 24, GCXpo is Canada’s premier national demonstration day for next-generation technologies, bringing together innovators, industry leaders, government, and investors to explore the future of mobility, defence, and energy solutions.
