
Ottawa, Canada — November 27, 2025 — Ottawa’s position as a global technology hub was further strengthened this week as Nokia officially broke ground on its new 750,000-square-foot Innovation Campus in the Kanata North Tech Park.
This investment deepens Nokia’s more than five decades of pioneering R&D in Ottawa and reinforces Canada’s global leadership in AI, quantum technologies, secure connectivity, advanced optics, and next-generation wireless networks.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together leaders from across government and industry, including:
- Hon. Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions
- Hon. Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade
- Hon. Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario
- His Worship Mark Sutcliffe, Mayor of Ottawa
Anchored in strong partnerships with the Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario, and the City of Ottawa, the new campus reflects a long-term commitment to Canadian innovation, talent development, and sustainable digital infrastructure.
A Strengthened Innovation Ecosystem for Ottawa and Canada
The nearly 750,000-square-foot campus will support more than 2,000 highly skilled employees and create over 340 new high-value jobs and 100 internships, reinforcing Ottawa’s role as a talent and innovation engine for Canada.
Nokia’s continued investment signals strong confidence in Ottawa’s:

- World-class post-secondary institutions

The campus will serve as a major R&D and innovation hub, creating new pathways for talent, industry collaboration, and commercialization across the region.
It will drive advancements in AI-powered networks, quantum-safe infrastructure, 5G and 6G systems, advanced routing and optics, and defence and security applications.

Nokia’s new campus is designed with sustainability and long-term impact at its core, incorporating LEED principles, low-carbon materials, and resilient energy systems.
The facility will also deepen collaboration across Ottawa’s innovation ecosystem, including Area X.O, the all-weather R&D complex operated by Invest Ottawa that helps companies bring emerging technologies to market faster and more safely.
This groundbreaking milestone marks the beginning of a new chapter for Ottawa’s role in shaping Canada’s digital future, advancing technologies that enhance connectivity, security, and economic resilience for decades to come.
