Ottawa-founded Fellow Celebrates Global Growth Milestone During Ottawa Innovation Week

Fellow, the company behind a powerful AI meeting assistant and note-taker platform, gathered its North American team together for a drone show to celebrate surpassing 5,000 customer organizations worldwide.

As drones illuminated the night sky above Lansdowne Park during Ottawa Innovation Week, Fellow was celebrating more than a milestone.

The Ottawa company recently surpassed 5,000 customer organizations worldwide, marking a significant achievement for a business that has grown from a local startup into a globally used AI platform.

The celebration brought Fellow employees from across Canada and the United States to the city where the company was founded, offering an opportunity to reflect on the company’s growth journey and ongoing connection to Ottawa.

A milestone year in the making

Founded in Ottawa in 2019, Fellow launched as a “manager’s co-pilot” for running better meetings, bringing shared agendas, meeting notes and action items together in one place. Shopify became the company’s first customer, helping validate the team’s vision for improving workplace collaboration.

For Invest Ottawa, the milestone represents another chapter in a story we’ve had the opportunity to follow over several years. In 2021, Fellow graduated from IO Accelerator as the company expanded its meeting productivity platform and secured Series A funding.

Today, more than 5,000 organizations rely on Fellow’s AI-powered platform to capture, summarize and organize meeting knowledge. The milestone reflects both the company’s continued growth and the increasing adoption of AI tools that help organizations improve productivity, preserve institutional knowledge and focus on higher-value work.

Building for the future of work

As advances in generative AI transformed how organizations capture and use information, Fellow saw an opportunity to evolve. The company rebuilt its platform as an AI-native meeting assistant and note taker, helping teams automatically record, transcribe, summarize and organize meeting knowledge.

The evolution reflects a broader shift in how organizations approach collaboration. As AI becomes increasingly integrated into day-to-day workflows, tools that can transform conversations into searchable knowledge and actionable insights are becoming an essential part of the modern workplace.

Fellow Co-Founder and CEO Aydin Mirzaee shared the company’s journey on the Invested in Our New Reality podcast, where he discussed leadership, workplace productivity and the future of work.

Across those discussions, a consistent theme has emerged: using technology to help teams collaborate more effectively and make better decisions. Today’s milestone is a powerful signal that the company’s evolution is resonating with organizations around the world.
