3d-Design & 3d-Print workshop for kids (age 8-12)
We are super excited to offer this 2 session workshop for 3d-Design and 3d-Printing together with our partners Alex from GeekYourselfOut and Luc from Aletheia Guild.
This beginner workshop will give you a hands-on introduction to the topic of 3d Design and 3d Printing. As part of the workshop, you get to design a Minecraft character, print it in 3d and take it home. The following topics are covered:
Session 1 (August 3, 2021 – 10 am)
- Introduction to the 3d printer machine
- What can be 3d printed? Things you can make with a 3d printer
- History of 3d printing
- Print a sample
Session 2 (August 10, 2021 – 10 am)
- Introduction to 3d Design Software (https://www.tinkercad.com)
- Pre-existing files and how to use them
- Thingiverse and other tips and tricks
- Printing your own design
In-Person Event
Due to the nature of the topic, this is an in-person event with a maximum capacity of 10 participants in a large space. We will ensure that all Covid related guidelines (masks, distancing, sanitiser, etc.) are adhered to. In case of any questions please contact us ([email protected]).
About the presenters:
Alex is a passionate Youth Entrepreneur, avid tinkerer and 3d printing enthusiast, the owner of GeekYourselfOut, alumni of the incubator13 Youth Business Incubator Program and a passionate community member who enjoys sharing his knowledge with others.
Luc was the former Director of the Innovation Office at Carleton University and the founding Executive Director of the University of Ottawa Entrepreneurship Hub. As a passionate champion of innovation, he has since devoted his time to help community-based organizations develop programs that nurture entrepreneurship, creativity and experiential learning. He is a strong advocate of the maker movement, makerspaces and maker-centered learning with a particular interest in how “making” enables youth empowerment and community flourishing.”
