These comments have been heard over and over again in the field of conflict management. It’s rare to meet someone who sees anything positive coming from conflict situations. Negative attitudes about conflict have been learned and reinforced by our experiences over time.
We’re individuals with unique concerns, expectations, interests, needs and wants. Sooner or later, our individuality bumps up against someone else’s individuality and the result is CONFLICT. One of our goals in running a conflict management skills workshop is to reinforce the fact that life does not exist without conflict. However there is an aspect of conflict experiences that cannot be overlooked: our behaviour when in a conflict situation. This is worth exploring because conflict has the potential to be positive when making appropriate choices in how we respond to situations. Besides, we know that the value of understanding conflict management styles results in more positive and productive conflict interactions.
What is my conflict style?
Everyone has a preferred conflict management style. It’s the style that we use most frequently when we experience conflict. It’s what we do without thinking. And, you’ll find that there are situations where this “default” style helps you resolve the conflict and other times when it will only make matters worse.
In order to establish baseline data that confirms how you behave when in conflict and the choices you make in response to the conflict, you will be asked to complete the Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI). The online self-assessment tool helps you discover how the ways you handle conflict affects performance. This instrument has been used worldwide for over 40 years, so you can be confident in its usefulness and broad applicability to assessing how we react to conflict.

Workshop format and focus:
- Maximum of 16 participants to allow for an interactive, practical experience

- Recognize the conflict styles of others

Each participant will practice what they learn by using different conflict modes and sharing ideas
The workshop aims to equip you with new conflict resolution tools and demonstrates how to use the appropriate conflict mode at the right time and for the right situation
Upon completion, you’ll be able to assess whether skill refinement or skill acquisition might be needed as a result of yours and others’ insights
