Entertaining clients doesn’t always have to be at sports or dinners out. Why not invite your prospect or colleague to take in some world-class touring jazz artists at Montgomery Scotch Lounge on the first Saturday of June?

Angela Verbrugge was an executive in the e-learning space at the turn of the century, travelling to speak at conferences about children’s online privacy and soliciting clients like Disney, Hasbro, NASA and Charles Schwab.

After a devastating car accident, a brush with cancer, and a drowning scare, she reinvented herself as a jazz singer. Born in Kingston, now based on Vancouver Island, she released her first album in 2019.

Verbrugge now has three critically acclaimed albums, tours with top NYC and Toronto band members, and was nominated for Jazz Artist of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards in 2024, as well as topping polls in All About Jazz and JazzTimes. Her original songs in the style of classic jazz as sung by Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and Chet Baker are humourous and touching interwoven with stories from her acting training in Toronto. In four years, Verbrugge has toured to Japan, Taiwan, UK, Germany, France, Luxembourg, Turkiye, Atlantic Canada, Central Canada and Western Canada.

She is joined by NYC Jazz Pianist extraordinaire Ray Gallon who recently recorded and played at Birdland with jazz’s most famous bassist Ron Carter. He has toured the world, and played on Lionel Hampton’s Grammy-nominated album.

Duncan Hopkins will play bass, known for his work with many famous Canadian jazz musicians including Diana Krall, and Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass, as well as his work as a leader. He recently subbed in for arguably Canada’s most famous living bassist, Dave Young, at Gigspace for a sold-out concert enjoyed by Ottawa attendees.
