What to expect?
In this session with Emily Ramsay, you will learn the art of filmmaking and how to nourish creative expression for social impact through film production. She will share her journey in the film business, as well as her current role as the Executive Director of one of Ottawa’s largest grassroots film festival, Digi60. You will learn about how Emily was able to transform her passion for filmmaking into a long-term career.
Bonus: All participants will be eligible to attend the upcoming Digi60 festival: Winter Edition, to attend film screenings and the afterparty. She will then select about three people from her Masterclass session to join her on set of her most recent television project, Vs: Women in Combat Sports.
Speaker Bio
Emily is a producer and festival director who focuses on local, grassroots storytelling in the Ottawa region. Her collective, Obscura Creative, works with local artists, not-for-profits and small businesses to create video content for web and broadcast.
She is the Executive Director of the not-for-profit Digi60 Filmmakers’ Festival, which focuses on the professional development of emerging filmmakers in Ottawa-Gatineau.
In addition, she has produced and managed several short films, independent features, and socially conscious ads while freelancing in development, festival strategy, post-production management and producing. Her most recent project, docu-series Vs.: Women in Combat Sports, was recently renewed for a second season on Fibe TV1. Emily is a graduate of the Algonquin Scriptwriting and WIFT Media Business Essentials programs, and is a recipient of the CMPA Ontario Production Mentorship and the WIFT Connect Mentorship.
