Established in 1975, OCCSC is a non-profit, non-partisan, charitable organization committed to advancing the full social and economic integration and participation of newcomers, immigrants, refugees, and people of Chinese descent in Canada. OCCSC is one of Ottawa’s most comprehensive immigrant serving agencies. OCCSC started by only helping Chinese immigrants, but we now serve newcomers from over 100 different nationalities. Our one-stop service centre provides settlement services, employment support, language training, pre-arrival services, refugee services, volunteer and childcare services.
The Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre (OCCSC) has been serving new Canadians for many years. This year, 2020, marks our 45th anniversary, to celebrate this milestone, and more importantly, to secure our continuing services for people in need, we would like to invite everyone to be part of our virtual fundraising gala. Held on Nov 26, 2020 from 7:30-8:45pm in a virtual setting, this event will be hosted by CBC News Anchor, Adrian Harewood and joining our guests include prominent political, corporate/ community partners, staff members, clients, volunteers and community members.
Registered participants will receive an e-copy of the 45th Anniversary Booklet and can participate in our free lucky draw (live) during the event. The prizes include a Mayor’s basket, certificates from spa, restaurants, etc. The e-invitation will be sent to our community partners, clients, volunteers, and donors via our OCCSC Newsletter, WeChat Public Account News, Facebook, Twitter, CHIN Radio, local community newspapers, ComeFromChina, Ottawazine and their WeChat news, as well as the possibility of social media from Politicians, such as MP. Karen McCrimmon.
The funds raised from this Gala will help us maintain and enhance all our services essential to immigrants/refugees, such as: Newcomer Youth Services; Vulnerable Women Services; Volunteer Services; Career Mentorship Programs; CHIN Radio Mandarin Program; and our Refugee Services, which receive limited or no government funding.
