The perks:

Akimbo’s truly at the forefront of their field: their use of fault tolerance in cybersecurity and autonomy is the first in the industry. Working with a small creative team, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to the entire development lifecycle of a pioneering distributed computing solution that’ll protect people into the future.

Now’s your chance to get in on the ground floor of a growing company to help shape the future of the industry. One of the keys to its popularity is its flexibility: it works with virtually any lock hardware and integrates with top booking platforms like Airbnb and Guesty. Founded in 2011, the Denver-based company has grown to be a world leader in universal access control, opening over one million doors across 65 countries each year.

7. RedLore

Logistics used to be the invisible industry — a giant, many-spoked wheel quietly turning behind the scenes to make sure the new Call of Duty arrives on time. The pandemic’s brought global supply chains into the spotlight, and that’s probably good news for companies like RedLore, which is helping to eliminate shipping losses on a worldwide scale. Using IoT and AI-based monitoring and tracking technology, the Ottawa-based start-up improves the way companies move everything from medical supplies to food to car parts from point A to point B.

The perks:

RedLore offers all the perks of working with a young upstart: a lively, collaborative culture where ideas are brought to life without corporate politics or entrenched legacy habits, a dynamic environment where your role can evolve over time, and an attractive compensation schedule that connects your personal success with that of the growing company.

The current openings:

Full Stack Engineer, DSP and ML Engineer

8. Tadaweb

In a world of big data, Tadaweb thinks smaller: they’re revolutionizing the field of open-source intelligence through a small data approach that focuses on scaling analytical teams’ output. The company’s mission — to create an AI system that can use and understand the internet as a person does — might sound sci-fi-esque, but they have a very human-centric goal: to allow everyone to access information more quickly and easily. Named a company of influence on the 2016 Disrupt 100 List, Tadaweb’s left the start-up nest to become a global business with four offices around the world, including one in Ottawa.

The perks:

Tadaweb is serious about their not-so-serious office culture: their motto is, work hard, play harder. They offer a whimsical, friendly work environment, and they’re committed to building a people-first company that sees team members as assets rather than employees or subordinates. From the start, the founders recognized the importance of work-life balance, and they offer flexible work arrangements focused on what needs to be done rather than the precise hours spent doing it.

The current openings:

Senior Frontend Engineer, Senior Backend Engineer, C++ Software Engineer, Information Ninja, + more.

The Montreal-based content producer and distributor recently announced that they’ll be opening a new studio in Ottawa, and they’re looking for animators and other crew to staff it.

The perks:

Ottawa has long been an animation industry hub, host to North America’s largest annual animation festival and a growing studio base. Now’s your chance to join this vibrant scene to work with an award-winning Canadian leader. Among the productions, the new Ottawa studio will be working on is Rocket Riley, described as an “action-packed musical adventure comedy,” and another soon-to-be-announced original project.
