Ottawa-Built Innovation Strengthens Canada’s Defence Future as Dominion Dynamics Raises $21M

Jan 15, 2026

Ottawa’s defence innovation ecosystem continues to gain national and global momentum.

This month, Dominion Dynamics, an Ottawa-based defence technology company, announced a $21 million CAD seed financing round to accelerate the development of systems designed for Arctic operations and allied defence missions.

The round was led by Canadian venture capital firm Georgian, with participation from Canadian and international investors focused on building resilient, next-generation defence capabilities.

For Ottawa’s innovation community, the announcement represents more than a funding milestone. It is a strong signal that homegrown companies developing sovereign defence technologies are gaining global confidence and backing, particularly as Canada and its allies prioritize Arctic security, interoperability, and modernized defence systems.

Building for the arctic and allied operations

Dominion Dynamics is focused on addressing one of the most complex challenges in modern defence: how to design systems that are resilient and deployable in extreme environments, including the Arctic.

Since launching in Q4 2025, Dominion has now raised $26 million. The company’s work centres on providing allies with “interoperable, rapidly deployable, software-defined systems that are affordable enough to be risked.”

“We are building systems that can scale, talk to each other, and be risked in combat,” said Eliot Pence, Founder and CEO of Dominion Dynamics in the company’s release. “Future deterrence will depend on speed of fielding, economic advantage, and the ability to operate across domains.”

These capabilities are increasingly critical as Canada strengthens its Arctic presence and works alongside NATO and allied partners to ensure operational readiness in challenging and contested regions.

The newly raised capital will support Dominion Dynamics’ efforts to expand its team, accelerate product development, and deepen collaboration with defence and security partners focused on Arctic and allied operations.

In its recent release, the company specifically highlighted plans to accelerate the deployment of Auranet – a network of sensors and systems aimed at helping to monitor Canada’s north.

Why this matters for Ottawa and Canada

Dominion Dynamics’ growth reflects a broader shift underway in Canada’s defence and security landscape. As federal investments increase and defence priorities evolve, there is growing demand for Canadian-built technologies that enhance sovereignty, interoperability, and resilience.

Ottawa is uniquely positioned to meet that demand.

The region is home to:

  • more than 330 defence, security, and cybersecurity companies,
  • 65 federal research labs,
  • national headquarters for DND, DRDC, RCMP, CSIS, and CSE,
  • and a deep talent pool spanning engineering, AI, systems integration, and operational expertise.
  • With its robust and growing defence innovation ecosystem, Ottawa is the logical home for the proposed Defence, Security & Resilience Bank (DSRB).

No other region in Canada brings together this density of defence companies, national security institutions, research infrastructure, and talent.

Establishing the DSRB in Canada’s Capital Region would place it at the centre of the country’s defence innovation engine, enabling faster alignment between investment, procurement, and deployment, and ensuring Canadian defence technologies can scale in step with national and allied needs

Looking ahead

As Dominion Dynamics enters its next phase of growth, its success reinforces a powerful narrative for Canada’s Capital Region. Ottawa is not only a centre of policy and governance, but a critical hub for defence innovation shaping Canada’s security future.

With continued collaboration between founders, investors, government, and ecosystem partners, companies like Dominion Dynamics are helping ensure that Canada’s defence capabilities are built at home, tested in real conditions, and ready to support allies around the world.
