Dafocom Solutions, an Ottawa-based manufacturer of secure communications and cybersecurity solutions, has been awarded a contract by the Department of National Defence (DND) valued at over $1.5 million.

The contract calls for the delivery of 200 System Network Access Kits (SNAK) to the Canadian Army, with options for three additional years.

As highlighted in a recent feature in Canadian Defence Review, Dafocom is part of the DaRT Group of Companies, an integrated group of wholly Canadian-owned Indigenous small businesses delivering end-to-end lifecycle solutions across the defence enterprise, bringing together capabilities spanning design, build, security, and sustainment across air, land, sea, and cyber.

“This contract award is a strong signal of the value Dafocom brings to mission-critical communications and to Canada’s broader effort to build a resilient, sovereign supply chain of dual-use SMEs and Indigenous businesses,” said Len Anderson, President and CEO of Dafocom Solutions, as quoted in Canadian Defence Review.

“This investment not only strengthens operational readiness, it also drives meaningful growth in Canada’s manufacturing sector at a time when expanding high-quality technical employment is essential.”

What the Contract Involves

Modern military operations depend on reliable communications, even in the most difficult and contested environments. The SNAK is a key element of the Canadian Armed Forces’ Communication Information System (CIS), providing a dedicated data connection that extends Command and Control (C2) capabilities in the field.

The kit supports the Canadian Army’s Primary, Alternative, Contingency, and Emergency (PACE) communications plan, helping commanders maintain connectivity when conditions are most challenging.

Under the contract, Dafocom will assemble and deliver the required hardware and software, and provide full lifecycle support including technical assistance, fault diagnosis and repair, and warranty coverage.

An Ottawa Company with Deep Defence Roots

Dafocom’s products are already embedded across the Canadian Armed Forces. Its data diodes and media converters are installed on TAPV, LAV, Halifax-class, Kingston-class, and Victoria-class platforms. Its ruggedized fibre optic interconnect solutions support mobile and temporary infrastructure including military camps, command posts, and naval vessels.

“This award highlights our execution capability and demonstrates how Indigenous small businesses are contributing to Canada’s defence ecosystem and its resilient dual-use industrial base,” said Craig Bowditch, CFO of Dafocom Solutions, as quoted in Canadian Defence Review.

A Growing Moment for Ottawa’s Defence Ecosystem

Dafocom’s contract win is a strong example of what Ottawa-area defence companies are delivering for Canada’s Armed Forces. Len Anderson, whose leadership spans Dafocom and sister companies Renaissance Network Reinvent and Terra Nova Solutions Rewired, is a member of Canada’s Capital Region Defence Innovation Task Force.
