About this workshop:
Preparing an income tax return is a must for any business, regardless of the business structure. This workshop will cover the basics ofpreparing a tax return for the sole proprietor. This course will be of interest to the unincorporated business owner as well as professionals belonging to a partnership. During this interactive hybrid 2-hr workshop, we will:
- discuss the Canadian Income Tax system
- review record keeping basics
- compare sole proprietorship vs. partnership vs. corporation
- identify and discuss the tax treatment of business income and expenses
- review tax form T2125 – Statement of Business or Professional Activities
- prepare a basic form T2125
About the speaker:
Wilson began his career in public accounting with Logan Katz in 2013 as a co-op student through the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management. His dynamic personality and keen work ethic quickly allowed him to develop strong relationships with our partners and staff, as well as our clients. Wilson became a highly-valued full-time employee in 2015 and obtained his CPA, CA designation in 2018. He has worked diligently at developing his skills and expertise across a wide range of areas including personal and corporate taxation, owner-manager remuneration and tax planning, interim controllership functions, and business advisory. Clients appreciate Wilson’s ability to recognize the value of understanding their unique situation and putting crucial conversations first. It is in his view that exchanges between others should be amicable, strategic, and goal-oriented. In 2023, Wilson achieved a significant milestone by becoming a partner at Logan Katz. As a partner, he continues to be an active ambassador for the firm, volunteering for consultations and workshops at Invest Ottawa, attending various charity and community events, and participating in student recruiting activities. Outside of the office, Wilson enjoys spending time with his family and rock climbing.
